Heavy lift expertise for the future of energy

Since 2016, SAL – today part of JSI Alliance – has been supporting the construction of ITER, the international fusion energy research facility currently being built in Southern France.

Over the years, our teams have transported a wide range of highly complex and oversized components from suppliers around the world. These have included transformers from China, reactor components weighing up to 600 tonnes from Italy, Japan and South Korea, as well as cryostat tank sections, assembly tools and large steel structures required for the project.

The scale and international nature of ITER make reliable project logistics and specialised heavy lift capabilities an important part of its supply chain. Each shipment brings its own requirements in terms of engineering, cargo handling, transport planning and execution.

ITER brings together partners from around the world with the goal of demonstrating the viability of nuclear fusion as a future source of safe, low-carbon energy. Fusion is the same process that powers the sun and, if successfully developed for commercial use, could contribute to the future global energy mix.

Supporting ITER over many years demonstrates the long-term project cargo expertise available within JSI Alliance and our ability to handle demanding cargo from origins around the globe.
