MV Frida Completes 1,600-Tonne Tandem Lift Test

Orca Class vessel confirms full lifting capability under maximum load conditions.

Vessel updates

The heavy lift vessel MV Frida has successfully completed a 1,600-tonne tandem lift test, demonstrating the full lifting capability of SAL’s Orca Class.

The test confirms the vessel’s performance under maximum load and outreach conditions.

During the operation, both cranes lifted 800 tonnes each using water-filled test bags at maximum outreach on the starboard side. The test was designed to validate the vessel’s structural integrity, stability and performance under peak load conditions.

By utilising its advanced anti-heeling system, MV Frida maintained controlled balance throughout the lift. The vessel’s integrated stability pontoon further ensured high stability, even at low draft.

The successful execution of the test confirms that the Orca Class meets key operational requirements and is ready to handle complex heavy lift operations. It also highlights the combination of engineering precision and vessel design required to safely perform lifts at this scale.
